'Nymphomaniac - Vol. 1' leaves you begging for more

Some people call director Lars von Trier a contrarian, others a misogynist; cinephiles go for Enfant Terrible because it retains a certain cultural cache. Whatever he is, he has our attention. As early as Europa (1991) heads turned. Dogma 95 brought The Idiots (1998) into our art houses and Oscar noms for Breaking the Waves (1996) and Dancer in the Dark (2000) saw him pegged as a new ‘foreign’ favourite. By the time Nicole Kidman starred in Dogville (2003) we were positively mesmerised.
